Postural health chiropractor in Kingswood, Mitcham

Bodies that spend the day in one shape tend to keep that shape. We measure how you are holding yourself with digital postural assessment, then show you the results and explain what they mean.

The postural changes we see in Kingswood

Nobody decides to round their shoulders. It happens slowly, usually because of what a body has been asked to do for years, and most people only notice when a photograph catches them off guard.

  • Shoulders that sit forward of where they used to
  • A head that travels ahead of the body, which adds load to everything below it
  • One shoulder or hip sitting higher than the other
  • Standing for twenty minutes at a school assembly and wanting to find a wall
  • Feeling tired by mid-afternoon in a way that a good night of sleep does not shift

Posture also changes with pregnancy, with growth spurts in teenagers and after an injury you thought was long behind you.

We measure it rather than eyeball it

Standing posture is important to assess. We use digital postural assessment so there is a record rather than an opinion, and so you can see what we are talking about when we explain it.

01

Digital postural assessment

An objective record of how you are holding yourself, which becomes the reference point for everything that follows.

02

Functional testing

Balance, range of movement and muscle testing, because posture is about what your body does rather than only how it looks standing still.

03

Your history

Old injuries, how your work is set up, what sport you play and what your body has been compensating for.

04

Your report of findings

We go through the results with you at your second visit, in plain language, before any care plan is agreed.

Results vary between individuals, and chiropractic care is not appropriate for everyone. We do not publish before and after photographs.

How chiropractic care might help your postural health

We measure how you are holding yourself rather than offering an opinion on it. There's more to posture than standing up straight. Let's look at the bigger picture.

Posture reflects what your nervous system has decided is the most efficient way to hold you up given everything it is managing. Chiropractic care works on the interference in that system rather than on the shape itself, which is why we assess the whole body rather than telling you to stand up straight.

Advanced BioStructural Correction™ is well suited to this work. It follows a consistent protocol from head to toe and gives particular attention to the compensations a body has built up over years of old injuries, desk work and habits. Many people find they sit and stand more comfortably as care progresses.

Because we take an objective measurement at the start, you get to see what has changed rather than relying on memory. Those measurements stay in your file and we repeat them as your care continues.

Where to from here

Have a read of what happens at your first visit, or book online and we will take it from there. If you would rather ask a question first, get in touch or ring the practice on (08) 8272 5899.

Postural health questions

Is bad posture actually causing my symptoms?

Not necessarily. Posture is one piece of a bigger picture and plenty of people with unusual posture feel fine. The assessment is about understanding your situation rather than deciding in advance that posture is to blame.

Can posture be changed?

Bodies adapt, which is the whole basis of what we do. What changes and by how much differs from person to person, and we will not give you a figure before we have looked.

Do you work with teenagers?

Often. Growth spurts, heavy school bags and long hours at a screen all land during the same few years. Care is gentle and a parent stays in the room.

What is Advanced BioStructural Correction?

ABC™ is the main technique we use. It follows a structured protocol that works with the whole body from head to toe, and it pays particular attention to the compensations a body builds up over time. More on our about page.

Will I need to do exercises at home?

Usually something, and we keep it realistic. A posture pole, a daily walk and a few habits that fit into the life you actually have work better than a programme you will abandon by week three.

Let's have a look at it.

Book online, or ring the crew and describe what is going on. They will tell you straight whether this is something we can help with.
